Which plates can I use it with?

It is made for standard 96-well plates. The 8 channels line up with one column of 8 wells at a time, so a full plate is filled in 12 steps.

Which range should I choose?

Pick the range whose maximum is just above the volume you dispense most often, as accuracy is best in the upper part of the range. The four ranges are 5–50 µL, 10–100 µL, 20–200 µL and 50–300 µL.

What does the rotating head do?

The dispensing head turns so you can keep a comfortable hand position when working at different angles, for example when moving between a reservoir and a plate.

Which tips fit?

It takes universal-style pipette tips. Load all 8 tips with one firm, even push and check that they sit at the same height.

How can I make sure all 8 tips are sealed properly?

The compound-material tip cone lets you check the seal by eye. After loading tips, look along the row to see that all tips are level, then draw up a test volume of water and check that all 8 tips fill evenly.

Can I autoclave it?

Partly, at 121 °C. Only part of the pipette should be sterilised in the autoclave, so check the instruction manual for which parts can be removed and autoclaved.

How do I use it with a reagent reservoir?

Pour the reagent into a multichannel reservoir, dip all tips to the same shallow depth, draw up slowly and dispense with the tips touching the well wall. Use fresh tips between different samples.

How is accuracy checked on a multichannel pipette?

Each channel should be tested separately by the gravimetric method in ISO 8655-6, because channels can drift independently. Because each piston and tip cone is a separate assembly, one channel can be serviced without replacing the whole pipette.

How do I maintain it?

Wipe the outside after use, store it upright on a stand, look for cracks or wear on the tip cones and have it checked at regular intervals, more often with heavy use.
